Ravens are known in mythology as symbols of prophecy, death, lost souls, spirits, and messengers. Folklore from around the world tells stories of ravens playing large roles: Noah in the Hebrew Bible, Greek God Apollo, Norse God Odin, Celtic God Bran, and Native Alaskan lore all include them.

Prophetic powers of the raven are said to come from their ability to pierce the veil between material and spiritual worlds. Like lost souls, they belong to neither world fully.
