The Lantern print
$30.00
Art prints that tell a story, bring back old folklore, or conjure up your most superstitious stories are what we call, “conversation pieces.” The Lantern is one of those.
Black cats are symbols of luck — good and bad. Superstitious folklore suggests a black cat crossing your path is an omen of death, yet in some cultures bringing a black cat aboard your ship was said to guarantee safe seatravels.
Lanterns are symbols of illumination, sight, safety, and understanding. Candles offer warmth and bring with them all the folklore regarding “the light.”
In this painting, the cat is not crossing anyone’s path, but he’s on his own.
What kind of luck is that supposed to bring???
You can debate about the mixed symbolism and your own personal stories with your friends around this 8″x11″ wall print on cardstock.
Illustration done in watercolor and digital paint by Carolyn Whittico.
