In Chinese traditions, rabbits symbolize vigilance and protection. They have multiple hideouts in the ground and are cautious. The “man on the moon” is thought to be a rabbit according to eastern legend. 2023 will be the year of the rabbit in the Chinese zodiac.

Celtic tribes thought that because they burrowed into the ground and spent their time under the earth, they could communicate with spirits and gods. Seeing a bunny was “a sign.”

Easter celebrates rabbits because they “bring life.” They’re known for being fertile and having lots of babies, so they’re also associated with resurrection and eternal life, or new life and spring.

Some people carry rabbit feet for good luck. I had one as a kid. Others superstitiously chant “rabbit rabbit” in the mirror at the beginning of each month.
